Originally from Nigeria, Ugo Nwachuku is an Actor and Creative Artist currently based in Montreal, Canada. In his journey through the arts, he studied at Drexel University in Philadelphia, where he discovered a love of both literature and philosophy, especially the works of Haruki Murakami, Kurt Vonnegut, Søren Kierkegaard, and Marcus Aurelius. After college, he has followed his passion for acting in the worlds of both Film and Theatre. He has performed roles in Shakespeare’s The Tempest, trained under numerous coaches, and acted in numerous film projects. Most recently, he played Rob in the short film Unseparated, a comedy about navigating relationships in the era of COVID-19 and video calls.
Ugo believes his Nigerian roots play a large role in his work, as a way to tell the story of his origins. For example, the character he portrays in Henry, Reporting—another recent project that was recently accepted to the Beach House African Short Film Festival—is a reporter who connects with people whose lives have been affected by higher powers in Lagos.
This story allows him to explore more contemporary issues and events, which he hopes can serve as a lesson for entertainment. Ultimately, he hopes that the work he creates has a chance to impact generations to come, so it gives us an opportunity to never forget and connect to a shared concept of humanity.
When he’s not acting, creating, and telling stories, Ugo likes to play football (soccer, to the Americans), dance, and watch e-sports. For more about Ugo and his work, visit his Artist Member page on HV or check out the YouTube channel for Film Fun, his production company.
