For this month’s Artist Member Spotlight, we focus on a painter featured in HV’s original series the art of Art (now streaming). Mark Acetelli is a Los Angeles-based artist whose work explores the dance of the conscious and unconscious. Growing up in Detroit in artistic family, Mark can recall the aromas of turpentine and oil paints from his mother’s projects. He still credits his mom as a primary influence on his work. His other artistic influences include Anselm Kiefer, Cy Twombley and Joan Mitchell.
Mark incorporates a variety of materials in his work, from oils and encaustics to burnt bone. He takes the same sundry approach to his tools, using traditional brushes along with palette knives, rags, even his own hands.

Mark is also a musician, having played guitar in rock bands. Music continues to influence his style, providing another creative outlet. His full episode of the art of Art features several original pieces he composed.

Collectors of Acetelli’s work include basketball legend Michael Jordan.
