For our Artist Member Spotlight this month, meet Tivoli Silas! Tivoli is a writer and filmmaker from Tampa, Florida currently based in the Los Angeles area. Tivoli recently received her MFA in Film Production, Directing Emphasis from Chapman University. A long-standing desire to create and tell stories has led Tivoli to pursue a career in film and writing. Raised as a cinephile, she grew up watching Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and the Marx Brothers, making fertile ground for her appreciation for film. She’s been imagining stories since she was a child, only later expanding and writing out these narratives. So far, she has written fifteen feature scripts, four novels (with three more in progress), two pilots, and one play… as well as other projects in development.
Tivoli’s short films have screened at multiple film festivals across the country. Her short film The Last Night, which tells the story of a teenage girl’s friendship with a ghost who only appears on Halloween, screened at the Gasparilla Film Festival and Sunscreen Film Festival this year. She was also recently interviewed by Shoutout LA about her experience as a young filmmaker in Southern California. Her goal is to become a professional writer and director of independent and studio films, as well as television shows, telling secular stories with mainly female protagonists and faith-based themes. She cites The Chronicles of Narnia as one of her biggest influences.
